Young Writers Camp – ISAW
UC San Diego
July 11 - 15, 2011 • 8:30a - 11:30
During this five day program students will begin to develop the writing skills and tools necessary to succeed in higher education by reading college-level texts and writing personal, reflective, and critical responses to these texts. Instructors will help students to see their writing from the perspective of a college professor and enable them to develop the resources necessary to deliver the quality of work required in a college course. The unique demands of the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (formerly the Subject A exam) will be discussed, as an example of the challenges students should be prepared for in college.

July 25-August 5, 2011
A two-week class for students entering 9 through 12th grades.
Did you know that in most college classes--history, psychology, archelology, biology--students do a good deal of writing? Writing is expected because the act of writing helps you learn the content and lets professors know how their students are understanding the particular discipline's core and its complexities. In this workshop, you'll read engaging university-level materials and write responses to them. You'll learn how to organize, develop, and refine your writing, and how to create your own academic voice. We welcome students who are eager to dive into a rich college-like writing experience. |
