- SJVWP Teacher Leader
Although my students are at a very young age in their school career, I understand some of the anxiety that can occur with writing. The Writing Project has allowed me to place myself in the students' shoes. I understand that not every piece of writing needs to go through the writing process.
Writing is a personal experience. SJVWP has encouraged me to reconnect with myself as an individual writer, not just a teacher. It had been years since I simply wrote for pleasure. It felt exhilarating to revisit that part of myself.
SJVWP has encouraged me to become more confident in myself as a presenter. I am very humbled by the experiences that have been offered to me.
I believe that writing is very individual and personal; therefore, it should not come from an adopted program. I believe that programs usually limit the writer's creativity and thought process. Writing should have a purpose. In the classroom I encourage my students to write for pleasure. I don't take every piece of their writing through the entire process. I want them to be able to enjoy writing rather than it always being some sort of assignment that's due.
