- CSNWP Teacher Consultant
- Co-Director of the Cal State Northridge Writing Project
- Co-Host of the #CWPChat Twitter chat
My local Writing Project has connected me with teachers at all grade levels, from kindergarten through college, who are passionate about teaching and learning. I have learned to utilize an author’s chair and to build a community of writers in my classroom.
Thanks to the Cal State Northridge Writing Project, I am writing more than lesson plans again. All of the writing that we have done in the Leadership Institutes has reignited my passion for writing in my personal life. When life gets challenging, I write through it. It helps me process and makes me laugh.
As a Teacher Consultant and now a Co-Director of the Cal State Northridge Writing Project, I have had the opportunity to present at conferences and to participate in organizing our annual Write to Literacy conference. I have met some amazing educators through this work. Additionally, thanks to my involvement with my local Writing Project, I have been able to co-host the bi-monthly Twitter chat, #cwpchat, with Matt Brown (@ibmrb)
Writing can be empowering and students deserve a chance to find and develop their voice. I believe that writing is a process and that we all enter in the conversation at different stages. I believe that everyone has something to contribute, something to say, and something to share.
How do I narrow it to just one? I can’t! I found Troy Hicks book, Crafting Digital Writing: Composing Texts Across Media and Genres, to be helpful in offering tools to transition to writing in a largely 1:1 school environment. I also recommend Penny Kittle’s Write Beside Them and Stephen King’s On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft.
